Used Skin On Frame Kayaks

   One of the advantages of used skin on frame kayaks is that they tend to be lighter in weight than other kayaks.  Being lighter in weight has its advantages both in and out of the water.  Kayaks spend a lot of time out of the water being transported to their destination.  The reduced weight of used skin on frame kayaks reduces the strain on the kayakers transporting it.

The construction of the used skin on frame kayaks is based on a traditional design widely used in Arctic regions.  The basic design was originally made out of pieces of driftwood attached together and covered in stretched seal skin.  Modern versions often replace the driftwood with aluminum pieces and the canvas or nylon cloth covered in a protective finish replaces traditional seal skin.  Used skin on frame kayaks may be the lightweights of the kayak family, but they are no lightweights when it comes to the strong appeal of these time tested designs.
